:: design we love :: PETRIFIED WOOD
Out in the Northeastern Arizona, inside the Painted Desert and just south of the Navajo nation, there is a national park dedicated to petrified wood logs. 225 million years ago, a river that flowed trough the area was lined with large trees. After the river dried up the trees died and fell, the wood turning to Silica (quartz) after being buried by volcanic ash. The silica inside the ash dissolved in groundwater and replaced the organic matter inside the logs with quartz crystals and remains virtually untouched today. The colors inside each log are wildly psychedelic and textural. We can’t wait to go there post-COVID for some sunshine and inspirational nature that looks like it flew in from another planet!
