The Nordic Museum in Seattle is always a source for inspiration. The last time we visited, there was a teensy tiny exhibit (literally talking about 3 photos hung near the reception desk that most people probably passed without knowing it was a formal exhibit). That’s when we discovered photographer Ragnar Axelsson and his latest body of work. In the series entitled ‘Glacier’, the Arctic is viewed from above by airplane so the landscape is reduced to patterns in black and white. Many of the photos look like animal skin, others resemble textiles and soil stratification, while one or two look like a rusty steel surface. Every photo is a Rorschach test and makes one feel oh-so-small in our oh-so-vast world.
