:: design we love :: JOHN IRVING NOVELS

John Irving is now 81 years old and recently published a tome in 2022 titled, “The Last Chairlift” - which is rumored to be his last book. We heard rave reviews from our avid-reader friends, who are devout Irving fans and were currently working through the 900+ page novel. We opted instead to start with his well-loved classic, “The Cider House Rules” before tackling his most recent work. The Cider House Rules is said to be his ‘most political’ and ‘controversial’ book because it centers around uncomfortable themes of abortion, racism, and rejection. When a good writer can communicate uncomfortable themes in a non-judgmental and curious way, it can spark our minds to consider issues we wouldn’t have if we saw the same topic being presented in the news today. That’s one significant reason we read - out of curiosity and to practice open-mindedness, we hope you enjoy a summer of reading too!
