:: design we love :: RICHARD SERRA

Richard Serra, whose sculptures are loved by architects everywhere for their enormously large scale and simple materiality, passed away earlier this year. It is fitting to have our final 2024 post as a tribute to the prolific artist. Having a father who was a pipe fitter in a San Francisco shipyard during WWII, and watching a mother who painted and encouraged the practice of art, Serra’s talents were nurtured from an early age and led him to Yale’s School of Art and Architecture to study. The day he passed away in March, we made a return trip to the Olympic Sculpture Park to see ‘Wake’ in honor of his legacy.
