:: design we love :: JAIME, A SOLO ALBUM
Brittany Howard has risen to fame with her band Alabama Shakes over the last decade, and after two successful full-length albums with the band, she put out this solo record at the end of last year and we can’t stop listening to it and singing various lyrics over and over, long after listening. She named the album after her older sister, who was her inspiration to seek out music as an escape and a way to embrace her talents growing up. The subject matters of race, religion and her first crush on a woman are all sensitively and vulnerably shared. And if that wasn’t enough to make you love the album, there is also a blending of musical styles that make this an all-together new sound, which comes only when someone has learned and studied all those classical style to near perfection to then be able to morph them into something entirely unchartered. Magnificent! Watch this NPR Tiny Desk Concert for a taste.
